The PlayStation 3 turns five in Europe today, having launched in the UK on Friday, March 23, 2007 at the, quite frankly, sky-high price of £425. Even with this large price tag, some large statistics went with it!
Those willing to part with such a huge amount of cash, almost enough to need a loan for, were offered a somewhat generic line-up of launch titles. The well recieved, and now huge, PS3 franchises MotorStorm and Resistance had their debut at the same time. Third party support was there, but it took years for studios to match the quality of the same games on Xbox 360.
Yet the console sold an impressive 600,000 units in its first two days on sale in Europe, 173,000 in the UK alone.
The PlayStation 3 has now sold four million units in the UK.
